transportation tolaugavegur start - and from skogar

Hi -

I'm looking to get to Landmannalaugar to do the Laugavegur trek on August 30th. We have an option to book the hut in Landmannalaugar on the 29th and need to decide quickly. Our preference is to get there on the 30th and immediately start hiking as we are fast hikers. But, we have an ambitious itinerary and a long hike that day, so want to arrive earlier than the ~11am charter bus, closer to a 9:30am hike start time.

  1. Private transportation sites look obscenely expensive. Is anyone else looking to share private transport that day or have other suggestions for how to arrive there?

  2. Are there any buses that alternatively depart later in the day from Reykjavik, so we don't have to the spend the whole day in Landmannalaugar?

  3. At the end, we'll be arriving in Skogar after doing the fimmvörðuháls in a day. It seems like our only option is public transit, but I can't figure out schedules for then. Is that reliable? Does anyone know when those buses depart each day?
